The Flowers of Midtown Toronto and Where to Find Them

Spring is in the air and I’m all about watching the the flower buds explode in all corners of my neighborhood in Toronto. It’s my 5th Spring in Midtown and by now I know the best places to look for the signs of new life, from the first buds in March to the last blooms in July.

Here’s some of it:

Crocus are usually the first to show up, in the garden in one of the houses in Belsize Park.

Then comes the explosion of dandelions, and the best place to observe them is in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

After that comes the Siberian squills that form a beautiful blue carpet, especially on the Beltline trail.

At the same time, we have the yellow bells or Forsythias. They seem to be everywhere, but the Oriole Park has a nice bush.

Right after that the Magnolias start to come into bloom all across the neighborhood. You can’t miss them, but if you want to look for them there’s a nice one at the south corner of the parklet in front of the Yorkminster Church.

At this time the stars of the show come in. Cherry trees of all shades of pink and white are in bloom. The Mt. Pleasant Cemetery has some nice ones, and it’s way easier to take pictures of them there than in High Park, which is usually crowded.

And last, but not least, we have the morning glories that start to bloom in July and can last until September. These bloom in the path between Millwood Rd. and Belsize Dr.

What about you? What are your favourite spring signs in your corner of the world?

Beautiful flowers — I especially love the simply beauty of a dandelion.

Me too. It’s surprising that some people see it as a weed

Larissa, thank you for sharing your beautiful flower photos and a burst of Spring. Being in Sydney, Australia it’s Autumn here, but we don’t have much Autumn colour where I live and it’s been raining solid for the last few weeks so the outdoors haven’t been too enticing. I visited a wonderful park in Brisbane recently, which was full of flowers and so pretty. Would love to spend days in there just soaking them all in.

Hope you have a great week.

    Best wishes,

    Rowena

Thanks for commenting. I hope the weather gets better! On the other hand you might not suffer the 4 months of snow we have here 😅

    Love the dandelions!

Right? We don’t have them where I come from, and it took me forever to learn that they’re the same plant as those white fluffy ones 😂

It is autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, so enjoying the colours of that season.

That’s a beautiful season too! I never know which one I like the most – Spring or Fall. The answer usually depends on when in the year you ask me the question
